The existing main building of a maintenance depot required a major roof refurbishment. The works were required to be carried out without disruption to the essential powercar train maintenance by the First Great Western operating company.

TR Scaffolding were awarded the contract to provide external and internal access to facilitate the works. The internal installation comprised of a 66 metre long x 30m wide crash deck situated 10m above the ground. The deck was formed with a 5 degree slope, a water proof membrane and a guttering system to fully weather protect the valuable trains and maintenance equipment below. A external scaffold surrounding the perimeter of the building which measured in total 200m long x 10m high provided the necessary safe edge protection to compliment the internal scaffold. The entire project was installed within 5 weeks with teams working shifts around the clock.
